On the Way Home

On the way home one evening from a card game, my Uncle Will was riding his horse through the back roads because he knew it was a short cut to get home.  He was tired and just wanted to get home as soon as possible.  Uncle Will could hear the sound of horse hooves coming up behind him.  Uncle Will pulled his horse over to the side of the road to let them pass because it seemed as if they were in a hurry.

He turned in the saddle to see who it could possibly be this late at night but there wasn’t anyone coming.  When the sound of approaching hooves came closer, Uncle Will’s horse shied and it was really difficult to hold him.  The horse just wanted to run and get away from there.  Uncle Will said that he couldn’t blame him because that night seemed more spooky than usual.

Then, the horse took off like someone was after him.  Uncle Will had very little control over the horse, which then ran through the local cemetery and didn’t stop.  Uncle Will did not want to go through the cemetery but couldn’t stop the horse.

All of a sudden, he heard a scream.  It sent chills down his spine and the hairs on his neck stood on end.  The scream sounded like someone was being killed.  Uncle Will glanced over his shoulder and saw something that wasn’t a human or an animal.  He didn’t know where to go or what to do. He decided to let the horse run until they were out of there.

When Uncle Will got home he didn’t want to tell too many people because he figured they would laugh at him and think he had too much to drink that night.  Uncle Will hadn’t had a thing to drink but explaining this to others was difficult to do.

There wasn’t any explanation for what happened that night but if you talked to Uncle Will he would tell you that it was something to really be scared about.

My sister-in-law’s uncle felt the same way. She said that he was always scared and had eerie feelings whenever he would relate this story.
